Another Write, Draw, Pass idea

March 23, 2012

Today, I used Write, Draw, Pass to review a story. Super fun! Instead of having the students invent sentences from out of nowhere, I asked them to write down something that happened in the first five chapter of El Nuevo Houdini. After the activity was complete, I collected the papers and showed them to the class as a way to review what had happened in the novel so far. Even though the students knew that whatever appeared on the paper had to be something that happened in the novel, the results were still goofy and imaginary by the end...which was totally fine with me. We got in the review by discussing the original sentence, and got in the fun by discussing the path it took. You can also compare the different events that the students write down, like what happened before/after, which event was more important to the plot, etc.
