Y’all have been asking me if I am going to continue the weekly news summaries in the 2016-2017 school year, and I’ve been dodgy with my response. I don’t think it’s actually worth my time, as a stay at home mom, but if I were still in the classroom I would want to be making the time to use them in my own classes….so…I’ve made a decision. I’m going for it. There is so much richness in current events and the background knowledge required to understand them, that how could I not?

For those of you that have been asking so that you can write the subscription into your budget requests for next year, you will need to purchase two separate subscriptions to cover the entire school year. This is so that the fully populated subscriptions don’t exceed Teachers Pay Teachers’ maximum file size. As you write the subscriptions into your budget, remember that a single purchase gives ONE teacher permission to use the materials in his or her class. You must purchase additional licenses for each additional teacher in your building that wishes to use the product, and I have made them available at half price (5 teachers in a building = 1 full price license + 4 half price licenses). Licenses can be purchased at the time of the original purchase or they can be purchased later from “My Purchases” in your TpT account. If you are having trouble convincing your admins to approve budget requests from Teachers Pay Teachers, I suggest referring them to this page that TpT created to answer frequently asked questions and show them the value of TpT.

  1. You are amazing! Your work enriches the learning of hundreds of my students here in Brooklyn, NY. This project especially has been amazing for my students to think outside the local while still being comprehensible, and I look forward to incorporating it next year.

  2. I am so glad you are doing this. Will this be sent to our email or will we have to come back to TpT each week to download it?

    1. You will have to go back to “My Purchases” each week to download the newest issue, but you’ll receive an email notification when each new one is available.

  3. OK, maybe a silly question…do you use this electronically with students or print them off? If I don’t have access to a color printer for a whole class, it loses the nice photos, etc. I was just wondering about this. It isn’t an issue if I just use a couple to print it in color, but it it is used with a whole class, that would be an issue. Sorry if I am being obtuse! I am thinking of using this next year and getting the school to pay for it, so I would like more information. Thanks!

    1. I would print of 2-3 in color to put in News Binders that you keep in your class library for free reading. If you want to highlight an article in class, then you could project the PDF to show the kids the image, and you could extract the text from the editable version and put it in a powerpoint to make it easier to follow along with if you read it all together. I personally would not print off copies for all of my students, but it all depends on how you want to use them 🙂
