This product presents five endangered species from South America to students in easy to understand Spanish. The vocabulary is limited and presents basic descriptions of each species and one or two reasons for its endangered status. The animals featured include el ocelote, el oso hormiguero gigante, el perezoso de tres dedos, la vaquita marina, and la chinchilla de cola corta. First year Spanish students will likely be able to understand these readings with ease by the end of the first semester of Spanish.

Each description is written on a one-page worksheet with a very brief comprehension activity at the bottom.

  • I have paired these readings with Martina Bex´s idea on seating charts. This is the perfect follow up for the repetition used in class and animals seems to be a hole in our curriculum at times. These readings are very accesible for upper levels at the beginning of the year to get those gears moving again!

  • I have been using things for students during FVR. Some of the kids are just too scared to pick up a book at first but they love to read about animals. I don't check for comprehension but I do watch to make sure they are reading, and they sure seem to be.

  • This resource had easy readings for my students to comprehend about endangered animals and fit nicely with our endangered animal unit. I would say that it would be nice to have different leveled readings to differentiate or provide a challenge.

  • We were starting a unit with la perezosa impaciente so the readings about the sloth and anteater were perfect to do before the novel

  • Thank you for this resource! It has helped me tremendously when trying to teach a new curriculum to 6th graders: Endangered Animals. These readings are so comprehensible, they had saved me a lot of time creating. I just added extra questions to the reading on a Formative and it grades itself! ?
