DAY ONE

  1. Introduce vocabulary for Las chicas no juegan al fútbol americano
  2. Have students write character descriptions for "Who Am I". Collect and edit overnight to be ready for tomorrow.

DAY TWO

  1. La Campanada: Translate the following sentence into English: Mi hermano juega al fútbol americano, pero quiere jugar al béisbol. (My brother plays football, but he wants to play baseball.)
  2. Reading: ¿Fútbol o fútbol americano? (Clarify the two sports first; fútbol = soccer, fútbol americano = football).
  3. Introduce song: Wavin' Flag by K'Naan and David Bisbal. Wavin' Flag was the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Tournament in South Africa. Here are the lyrics: Wavin' Flag lyrics [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXUr4rh2LRE]
  4. Play a few rounds of "Who Am I".

DAY THREE

  1. Campanada: Have students translate into Spanish: "I play football, but I want to play soccer because it is the most popular sport in the world".
  2. Choose a Cantaninja to decide when the class will watch the Wavin' Flag video.
  3. Storyask "Las chicas no juegan al fútbol americano" using the script from the link under Day One.
  4. Take a break at some point during the story to review gestures. Include gestures from other stories as well.
  5. With 10-15 minutes left in the class, give a formative listening assessment.
  6. Play a few more rounds of "Who Am I?".
DAY THREE
  1. La Campanada: Type up part of the story, in L2, that you asked yesterday. Have students translate it into English.
  2. Choose a Cantaninja to decide when the class will watch the Wavin' Flag video.
  3. Finish storyasking.
  4. Type up the story together (circling and allowing students to give you the details as you go) and do a blind re-tell.
  5. Play a few more rounds of "Who Am I".
DAY FOUR
  1. La Campanada: Have students write down (in Spanish) as much of the story from yesterday as they can recall.
  2. Type up and project (or write out on the board) the students' answers as they give them to you, starting with the first student's answer, then adding to it with each additional response.
  3. As a class, do a horizontal conjugation of the story, re-writing it in the 'yo' form.
  4. Give students the article "Deportes en los países que hablan español" as a reading assessment (questions on page 2):

  6. Play a game for the rest of class.
