These lesson plans will introduce your students to Merengue and teach them the structure "baila" by learning about a YouTube star named Carrie, "The Dancing Merengue Dog" from Chile. The plans are appropriate for Spanish 1+ and will fill 2+ class periods (90-120 minutes). They include:

  • a Spanish-language reading about Merengue
  • a two-level embedded reading about Carrie
  • an alternate, advanced reading about Carrie to use in multi-level classes
  • two reading comprehension activities
  • an interview activity that provides reading and speaking repetitions of first and second person verb forms
  • two songs with lyrics activities
  • a writing activity
  • answer keys
  • detailed lesson plans
