This product contains two readings in Spanish that you can use to teach your students about the expression "Lágrimas de cocodrilo" (fake crying). The first reading is a story about a boy that gets in trouble and starts crying to get out of trouble, but his 'lágrimas de cocodrilo' don't fool his dad. The second reading is about the meaning and the origins of the expression.

Both readings are provided in worksheet and projectable, slideshow format. Personalized questions for discussion are provided to use for each reading, and a page of comprehension questions for both readings are included. A suggested MovieTalk activity is also included.

This set of readings works with the structures from Unit 10 of the SOMOS curriculum for Spanish 1. If you are following the Somos curriculum, I recommend using these plans during or after Unit 10! Otherwise, it makes a great addition to a unit about idiomatic expressions, food, emotions, or relationships.

  • Love how detailed the instructions are!

  • I was able to use Lágrimas de Cocodrilo as a part of my midterm review. I loved it! Gracias!

  • I used it as an extension activity to go with a reading comprehension assessment. The reading was 100% on level for my 1B class and did require students to use details to come up with answers that were not completely explicit in the text.

  • This was a great addition to use after having completed Unit 10. Very cool to learn the origins of the phrase crocodile tears…I never knew!

  • Such a fun resource with students. It also got us talking about our own "weird phrases" and looking for others in Spanish. Great!
