Inspiration and application.

Founder Martina Bex and Director of Training Elicia Cárdenas are regularly hosted as Keynote Speakers at state, regional, national, and international language teaching conferences.

In alignment with our vision for professional development, organizations can expect our keynote addresses and workshops to motivate and inspire teachers. We work with each partner organization to develop a keynote address that supports the event’s theme and the organizational goals, and we always ensure that teachers leave with the tools they need to use the ideas in their classrooms right away.

Nothing is more motivating than success. In this session, we will look at instructional moves that build confidence and motivation for students in the world language classroom, with a focus on supporting students who often feel left behind in world language classes. Founder & CEO
    Martina bex 275x275

    1 hour

Changes in instruction require changes in assessment. Teaching for communicative proficiency necessitates that we grade for communicative proficiency. Grades should communicate what students CAN DO in the target language, within the classroom context. They should be proficiency-based Performance Grades– and they should not be another source of stress for teachers. In this session, the presenter will unpack several problems with traditional grading systems and will share simple interpretive and presentational assessment templates and rubrics.

  • What ACTFL Level is this text?

    Martina Bex

    Founder & CEO

As teachers try to determine if a text is a good fit for their learners, they often ask the publisher, “What ACTFL Level is this text?”. Unfortunately, they're asking the wrong question! In this session, the presenter will help attendees learn how to identify texts that are a "just right" fit for their learners in terms of reading level. Participants will leave with a simple evaluative tool to use when ordering reading materials for their classes!

  • TPRS®: Finally, They’re Fluent!

    Martina Bex

    Founder & CEO
    Martina bex 275x275

    1 hour

Most language teachers spend the first few weeks each fall reviewing everything that students have forgotten over the summer, only to watch them forget it forever upon graduation. But it is possible for your students to maintain their language proficiency over the summer and across a lifetime. In this introductory workshop, you’ll experience first-hand how Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS®) uses compelling, comprehensible input to build lifelong language proficiency in students and restore the joy of teaching.

I have learned so much from this course! I feel like I'm improving daily and I'm not kidding when I say how much more engaged my students seem with some of the small changes. They are responding so well! Students are still reaping the benefits now.

ABC Participant

This class is by far the best I have ever taken! In my opinion this should be a required course in college and graduate courses for anyone wanting to become a language teacher.
