With block periods for testing today, I pulled up students individually for speaking assessments. This meant that I needed plenty of individual work to keep them busy! After they finished the authentic reading from Camina o corre, I had them choose children's books for Free Voluntary Reading (FVR). They needed to complete this form for each book that they read (I saved it as a PDF and printed out two copies on each side of a page, so they have four per sheet of computer paper). The document contains three different kinds of forms: one each for children's books, chapter books, and short stories/articles/blog posts/etc. Students have to respond to questions about what they read and identify/guess the meaning of new vocabulary words while they read.
