  3. se pone - puts on (you could use "se prueba - tries on" instead)

GESTURES

  1. te ves muy guapo - ask students what they do when they see a 'fine' member of the opposite sex. This was hilarious in my class!
  2. la ropa cuesta demasiado - hold up your hand and rub your thumb and pointer finger together, and shake your head "no"
  3. se pone - pretend to put on a shirt or pair of pants

SCRIPT: Hoy es lunes. El viernes, hay una fiesta, y Marcos y María necesitan ropa fabulosa. Van a Nordstroms para comprar la ropa. Marcos tiene 25 dólares y María tiene 22 dólares. Primero, Marcos se pone pantalones negros y una camisa morada. María mira la ropa de Marcos y dice: ⎯¡Marcos, te ves muy guapo! ¿Cuánto cuesta la ropa? ⎯A ver...la camisa cuesta veintidós dólares y los pantalones cuestan treinta. Sólo tengo 25 dólares y la ropa cuesta cincuenta y dos dólares. La ropa cuesta demasiado. ⎯dice Marcos. Marcos busca otra ropa. Entonces, María se pone una falda rosada y un suéter azul. Marcos mira la ropa de María y dice: ⎯¡María, te ves muy guapa! ¿Cuánto cuesta la ropa? ⎯A ver...la falda cuesta quince dólares y el suéter cuesta ocho dólares. Sólo tengo 22 dólares y la ropa cuesta veintitrés dólares. La ropa cuesta demasiado.⎯ observa María. María busca otra ropa. Entonces, Marcos se pone una camisa blanca y pantalones rojos. María mira la ropa de Marcos y dice: ⎯¡Marcos, te ves muy guapo! ¿Cuánto cuesta la ropa? ⎯A ver...la camisa cuesta diez dólares y los pantalones cuestan quince dólares. ¡La ropa no cuesta demasiado!⎯exclama Marcos. Finalmente, María se pone un vestido azul. Marcos le dice: ⎯¡María, te ves muy guapa! ¿Cuánto cuesta la ropa? ⎯A ver...el vestido cuesta veinte dólares. ¡No cuesta demasiado!⎯exclama María. Marcos y María compran la ropa y van a la fiesta el viernes. VARIATIONS:

  • The characters try on clothes that look ugly/don't look great
  • The characters keep going to different stores because the store they started at has ugly clothes
  • The characters still don't have enough money when they find the perfect outfit, so they (steal the clothes, go to the party wearing togas, pretend to get donations for a charity, etc.)

ENGLISH: On Friday, there’s a party, and Marcos and María need fabulous clothes. They go to Nordstroms to buy the clothes. Marcos has 25 dollars and María has 22 dollars. First, Marcos puts on black pants and a purple shirt. María looks at Marcos’s clothes and says, “¡Marcos, you look great! ¿How much do the clothes cost?” “Let’s see...the shirt costs 22 dollars and the pants cost thirty dollars. I only have 25 dollars and the clothes cost 52! The clothes cost too much,” says Marcos. Marcos looks for other clothes. Next, María puts on a pink skirt and a blue sweater. Marcos looks at María’s clothes and says, “María, you look great! How much do the clothes cost?” “Let’s see...the skirt costs 15 dollars and the sweater costs 8. I only have 22 dollars and the clothes cost 23. The clothes cost too much”, observes María. María looks for other clothes. Then, Marcos puts on a white shirt and red pants. María looks at Marcos’ clothes and says, “Marcos, you look great! How much do the clothes cost?” “Let’s see...the shirt costs 10 dollars and the pants cost 15. The clothes don’t cost too much!” exclaims Marcos. Finally, María puts on a blue dress. Marcos says to her, “María, you look great! How much does the dress cost?” “Let’s see...the dress costs 22 dollars. It doesn’t cost too much!” exclaims María. María y Marcos buy the clothes and go to the party on Friday...
