This one page, Spanish language reading presents opposite views on immigration to Spain.

It is suitable for some students in late Spanish 1, but most Spanish programs will prepare students to be able to read it in Spanish 2 and beyond. There are several comprehension questions that accompany the reading, and there are two pages of additional post-reading activities that the teacher can choose to use or exclude based on the purpose for the activity and time available. The plans include

  • a Spanish language reading
  • comprehension questions
  • an application/pre-writing activity
  • a writing activity with rubrics that match four different levels of Spanish
  • a note to the teacher to present possible uses of this reading
  • answer keys
  • Short and sweet; plus I love the rubrics included with the writing prompt!

  • We were doing a unit on Spain and this was a great additional resource. I love the writing section of this resource. It really gets the kids thinking.

  • This is a great reading to read in conjunction with the novel "Esperanza". It's great to be able to include immigration issues in other countries besides the United States.

  • My students loved this reading. I used it in Spanish 2 as a Things about the culture of Spain. They students found it very interesting that every country has their own immigration issues.

    Maria M.
  • My students love learning about culture, social issues, and legends of other countries. This was an easy enough read for my students to complete.
