  1. La mujer vieja vive sola. The old woman lives alone.

  4. Mi mamá no necesita un carro. My mom doesn't need a car.
  5. El Presidente vive en Washington D.C. y trabaja con políticos. The President lives in Washington DC and works with politicians.

PRACTICE QUESTIONS FOR INDIVIDUAL RESPONSE:

  1. ¿El Presidente de los Estados Unidos vive solo en la Casa Blanca? Does the President of the US live alone in the White House?
  2. ¿Tú necesitas un diccionario en la clase de español? Do you need a dictionary for Spanish class?
  3. ¿Tu papá trabaja con computadoras? Does your dad work with computers?
  4. ¿Los leones viven solos o viven en grupos? Do lions live alone or in groups?
  5. ¿Los bebés necesitan calculadoras? Do babies need calculators?

PERSONALIZED QUESTIONS FOR CLASS DISCUSSION:

  1. ¿Tú necesitas una computadora para (hacer la tarea, trabajar, hablar con amigos, etc.)? Do you need a computer to (do homework, work, talk with friends, etc.)?

  5. ¿Qué necesitas (en la clase de español/matemáticas/ciencias/inglés/etc.)? What do you need (in Spanish/math/science/English class)?
  6. ¿Tú trabajas? ¿Dónde? Do you work? Where?
  7. ¿Tú trabajas bien con otras personas? ¿Por qué sí o por qué no? ¿En qué circunstancias? ¿Con qué personas? Do you work well with other people? Why or why not? In what circumstances? With which people?

SCRIPT: Éste es Manuel. Manuel tiene 42 años, y él vive con su mamá. Manuel está contento, pero su mamá no está contento. Ella quiere vivir sola, pero no puede porque Manuel no quiere vivir solo. Su mamá decide que Manuel necesita una esposa. Le dice, «Manuel, yo soy vieja y quiero vivir sola. necesitas una esposa. ¿Trabajas con alguna chica atractiva?» Manuel trabaja con muchas muchachas en OfficeMax, pero no quiere hablar con las muchachas porque es muy nervioso. Por eso, su mamá llama a las chicas por teléfono. Ella llama a una muchacha que se llama Janelle. Le dice, «Hola Janelle, me llamo Bernadís. Tú trabajas con mi hijo Manuel necesita una esposa. Él vive conmigo, pero yo quiero vivir sola. ¿Te gusta mi hijo?» Janelle piensa por un momento. Ella dice....(here are some options:)

  1. «Tu hijo trabaja mucho. ¿Tiene mucho dinero?»
  2. «Tu hijo es muy feo. ¡No quiero ser su esposa!»
  3. «Tú eres una mamá muy mala. ¿Por qué no quieres vivir con tu hijo?»
  4. «Yo vivo sola y no quiero esposo»
  5. «¡Sí! Manuel es inteligente y atractivo»
(The mom can call more girls if necessary) ENGLISH SCRIPT: This is Manuel. He's 42 and he lives with his mom. Manuel is content, but his mom isn't. She wants to live alone, but she can't because Manuel doesn't want to live alone. His mom decides that Manuel needs a wife. She says to him, "Manuel, I'm old and I want to live alone. You need a wife. Do you work with any attractive women?" Manuel works with many girls at Office Max, but he doesn't want to talk with them because he's very nervous, so his mom calls them on the phone. She calls a girl named Janelle and says, "Hi, my name is Bernadis. You work with my son Manuel. Manuel needs a wife. He lives with me, but I want to live alone. Do you like him?" Janelle says, "Your son works a lot. Does he have a lot of money?"/"Your son picks his nose. Gross." etc.
