This spring, we celebrated the two year anniversary of El Mundo en tus manos, the news publication that brings you simplified news stories from the Spanish speaking world! It has been a fantastic two years, and I have enjoyed curating current events from around the globe to bring you interesting and important stories that will help you to feel confident when discussing current issues facing Spanish speaking communities. UPDATE: The 2020-2021 subscription is ready for pre-order!
The 2016-2017 subscription was a weekly publication, but I was unable to keep up with the grueling schedule last year. For that reason, the 2017-2018 subscription has been bi-weekly. So…how am I able to offer a weekly subscription again??
Maris was my original inspiration for publishing current events in Spanish, and she has published news articles on EMETM’s off weeks this year–so it is only fitting that we join forces to be able to offer you exactly the subscription that you need! We are EXCITED to collaborate on this project in the coming year, and we are confident that together we will be able to provide even greater value to our subscribers!
FOR SALE NOW!
Both subscriptions are now available for pre-order. Click on the images below to pre-order your subscriptions today!
WEEKLY SUBSCRIPTION: 37 issues, published every Monday
BI-WEEKLY SUBSCRIPTION: 19 issues, published every other Monday
HOW TO USE NEWS IN CLASS?
Hundreds of teachers are using El Mundo en tus manos, and truly there is no one right way to go about it. Some teachers print and add the articles to their class libraries for free reading; others share one article per class period. Still others have dedicated one class period per week to current events! Maris and I hope that offering two different subscription levels and collaborating will allow even greater flexibility to meet your needs. Need some more specific ideas?

Do you believe these news articles would be appropriate for an AP Spanish Language and Culture class? I’m interested but concerned it’s not “authentic” which is what the College Board calls for in it’s course description. Is it intended more for novices? A thought I had is to use them for scaffolding. Read this modified article before reading the original article in Spanish.
The articles should be very easy for AP students to read, and they would make for excellent #authres scaffolding and jumping off points for discussion!
Wow, I can not believe that it has been 2 years. I bought a subscription the first year but not this year due to teaching Spanish 1A almost exclusively this year. I may be getting Spanish 2 H and 4 next year and if so will definitely be purchasing a subscription. I love the bi-weekly option. Not sure which I will use. I teach on an 75 minute block every other day. So some weeks I only see the kids 2 times. Thanks for all the hard work that you do!
You are welcome!! Thanks for reading for these two years 🙂
Is there a way to see a preview of an article so we can determine if they would be appropriate for the level that we’re teaching? Also, is there any chance you will be offering the sale price again closer to the start of the school year? We don’t get our schedules until August 1st. Thanks so much!

Martina, I have been using this in my classroom for the past two years. This is one of those readings that my students enjoy the most because they can relate it to their world at the moment. I am so glad that you are going to continue this and even offer it to the higher levels. Thanks for all your work.
I am so glad to hear it Nancy!! It has been full albeit a lot of work 😉 Excited to work with Maris this year!
Will the two levels be included in the one subscription?
I was wondering if I purchase later in the year (when we get our allotment) if it will still include the same amount of issues?
Martina, I have been using EMETM for the past few weeks (even though I’ve had the subscription for the entire year.) The articles are so well written AND engaging! I love being able to hook my students with the just the titles. You don’t shy away from difficult topics either, which I appreciate. It has been easy for me to find a quick video to use as supplement the articles too. Thank you-I will definitely be subscribing again next year!
Catie, wow! Thank you so much for this encouragement! I am really excited to be working with Maris next year to step up our game even more 🙂
OMG, how have two years passed already?! And yet, we’ve aged flawlessly… buying my third subscription IMMEDIATELY and can NOT wait to use it again and step up my game a little more w/ that 50 activities pack. CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!
I think we have reverse aged. 😉
