This product contains an article in Spanish with brief background information about Hurricane María, which hit land in Puerto Rico on the morning of September 20, 2017 as a Category 4 hurricane. It also contains a story, told in Spanish in an illustrated slideshow, loosely based on the real story of a Spanish teacher in the US waiting to hear from her family in the days following the hurricane's landfall. Included with permission from the Spanish teacher, Enid López Reed, is a voicemail that she received from her mother on September 24, which was the first time that she heard anything from her family since the night before the storm. If you are unable to access the voicemail embedded in the PPT, you can open it directly from the .zip folder for this product.

Please use these materials to connect your students to what is happening in Puerto Rico right now and what will be happening in the coming months.
