This resource includes everything you need to teach a comprehensive 9-day French 1 unit centered on hunger, emotions, storytelling, music, activism, and hunger strikes. Students acquire language naturally through comprehensible input, personalized discussion, music, co-created stories, literacy activities, authentic resources, and performance-based assessment.

The content connection in this unit is the topic of hunger strikes. Looking at famous hunger strikes from throughout history can help us identify some of the major human rights campaigns that have taken place over the last two centuries. Human rights and activism will become a central topic in the curriculum as you move into the second year of instruction.

Les larmes de crocodile lesson plans and materials are included in this unit as an alternative to hunger strikes.
