Interested in creating a One Word Image (OWI) with your students, but intimidated by the process? The OWI Imagination Lab is an interactive Google Slides presentation that is designed to be used in class with your students. The slideshow walks you through the creation of an OWI character (a food, an object, or an animal). Each slide presents a new detail to add to the character's description, along with several options. For example:
- SIZE: Is it big? Small? How big? How small?
- PERSONALITY: Is it nice? Mean? Solitary? Sociable?
- BODY PARTS: Does it have legs? Arms? Eyes? How many?
- COLOR
- SECRETS
- TALENTS
- FEARS
- PROBLEMS
- ...and more!
The Interactive Slideshow should be used in Google Slides or converted to Microsoft Powerpoint, and each clickable image is linked to other pages within the presentation. This presentation includes 60 slides and it is not simple to edit. A detailed Instructions document explaining how to use the interactive presentation with your students is also included.

PURPOSE
The OWI Imagination Lab is designed to support teachers in learning how to create a One Word Image (OWI) with their classes. Once you have used it several times to create OWIs with your students, my hope is that you will feel confident enough to guide your students through the creation of an OWI without the support of the presentation.
CREDIT
OWI is an activity created by Ben Slavic that I learned from Michele Whaley and Kristin Dahl. I was inspired to create this presentation after watching Cécile Lainé demonstrate an OWI.

I purchased towards the end of the year and the students were very entertained... which is super hard at the end of level 2 when most aren't going to continue in their language studies.

I have always wanted to try a One Word Image with my students, but I was a little intimidated. My students are novice low learners and I wanted to be sure the process would still be comprehensible without using too much English. This Imagination Lab was perfect. We had so much fun creating characters and their stories. I can't wait to get back to my classroom to use this again!

Neat google slide presentation with things I can not even try to do technologically. I only used this once with 1 class of Spanish 2 students. I think it would work better at the lower level. Made for a fun class though when 3/4 were out at an assembly.

This is a great way to get your students started with OWI activities, and a great way for a newbie like me to practice leading them. All of the choices you make lead you through to the next slide and before you know it, you've created a one-eyed, winged burrito with abs that becomes your class mascot!
