Lectures du jour | Semaine 1

Lectures de jour is a new series of readings intended for beginning language students. Each set provides one week (five days) of readings. One reading is provided for each weekday:

• Lundi des légendes: A legend from a Francophone country
• Mardi des merveilles: A natural wonder from a Francophone country
• Mercredi en musique: A song, genre, or artist from a Francophone country
• Jeudis joyeux: a non-fiction text about something interesting from the Francophone world
• Voyage vendredi: A destination (place or event) in a Francophone country

SEMAINE 1:

• Lundi des légendes: Le Mokélé-mbembé
• Mardi des merveilles: Les jardins de Marqueyssac
• Mercredi en musique: Céphaz
• Jeudis joyeux: Les sangliers en France
• Voyage vendredi: L’Île Sainte-Marie

The original intent of this set of resources was to create a resource that teachers could provide to their students as optional summer enrichment for interested students (so that they could read one page per day throughout their summer vacations), and they would make a great addition to a classroom library. If you have a Free Voluntary Reading program set up in your class, the readings are perfect for students to self-select at the designated time.

The most motivating kind of reading for is no-strings-attached reading, and for that reason we recommend that teachers allow students to read these texts without completing any follow-up reading activities. However, because we know that there are many instances in which teachers might need or prefer to assign a post-reading task (substitute activities, absent work, etc.), we have provided a one-page post-reading Smash Doodle® template for each text that students could use to summarize the information from each text or story.
