This product features two versions of a news stories about the use of chickens to combat loneliness in a particular population in Australia: one version presents the new story accurately, and the second contains five factual errors. The article is written in the past tense in easy to understand Spanish, suitable for Spanish 1.

The articles can be used on their own, but it is recommended to share both of them with students. First, students should read the falsified news story. They are encouraged to think critically and identify the five factual errors. Then, they compare the erroneous news story to the true news story and check their hypothesis.

Students love the intrigue of these unusual news stories as well as the contrast with the "fake news" article (they compliment my unit on Las Noticias nicely). I also printed this story and keep it in a binder in a page protector along with other comprehensible stories for students to access during Free Reading time.
