El Día de los Reyes Magos

December 28, 2014

I received a wonderful Christmas gift from one of my readers: a reading about El Día de los Reyes Magos to share with you!!

After a fun game of strip bingo to celebrate El Día de los Muertos, Aimee Quinlivan created a reading and word list to teach her students about El Día de los Reyes Magos, which is January 6. She emailed it to me so that I could share it with all of you! Download it here.

If this is your first time hearing about Strip BINGO, have no fear: the game is not scandalous at all. Click here for instructions. The range of vocabulary in the reading that Aimee created makes it comprehensible for second-year Spanish students in most programs, although there are certainly many TCI programs out there that produce first-year students that are ready to read it on or around January 6.

If you have played Strip BINGO recently and are afraid that the novelty has worn off, consider using the reading that Aimee has shared to play a different game. For example, you could play a more traditional game of BINGO and then use the game boards to do a Free Write about the holiday--even comparing and contrasting it to Christmas or Hanukkah or birthdays or any other holiday or celebration. Read instructions for the BINGO with Free Write activity here.

If you are looking for a first-year reading about El Día de los Reyes Magos, check out this product. For more activities that can be used before, during, and after Winter Break, click here.

AND...not related to teaching...I watched an AWESOME documentary the other day that explores what exactly the Star was that the Magi followed (a star? an asteroid? a planet?). It uses astronomical evidence to support its findings. Click here to watch the full documentary on YouTube.
