This product contains a 3 one-page readings in easy to understand Spanish - two versions of a text about el 12 de octubre (one for Level 2+, one that may be a fit for Level 1). These texts provide an overview of what the day is commemorating (the beginning of contact between Europe and the Americas) and how it is viewed differently by different populations and how it is named differently in different countries. An additional text about El Día de la Raza, as the day is historically known, and the concept of «raza» is included. Each of the October 12 texts include a comprehension page with questions in Spanish. The resource also includes a glyph for students to color with personalized questions in Spanish. Finally, projectable versions of all texts are provided as a Google Slides resource.
All texts are provided in PDF and editable Google Slides format.
The product download is a PDF that contains a clickable link to a Google Drive folder that contains all resources.

This is such a great resource to be able to inform students about 12 Oct and keep them in the target language. This resource covers a lot of ground in just a few words and simple sentences. Love the glyph that was added in the updated version - thank you!

I was so glad that you made this resource. I wanted to be more "responsible" with my messaging and this was a really good resource. Thank you

I left this for a sub...they got creative....they had students do a team building, hand holding activity that matched the glyph....the results were interesting (even though they had little to do with the reading, I could see where it could be better incorporated next year. :)

I ended up using these with my upper level classes. One of them, this year, has several foreign exchange students from Europe. It sparked a huge discussion about the different ways that Columbus and the day in general is viewed between the two sides of the Atlantic. Thank you for helping to provide one of the best days so far this year!

Very useful resource for beginners. I appreciate being able to teach about cultural topics and stay in the target language.
